Political Group Therapy

boulder psychotherapist who works with couples

Join this in-person group therapy program with Dan Michels (LPC, CHT).

Tuesday evenings from 5-7pm at Bee Well Chiropractic in Nevada City
April 21st – June 30th, meeting every other week, for a total of 6 meetings

Everyday we watch families fracture, friendships end, coworkers becoming hostile and communities turning against one another, all because we have forgotten how to speak to one another with basic human decency. We have forgotten that we are strongest because of our differences.

Political Group Therapy is a small, supportive space where we don’t debate policy. We practice the missing skill: compassionate communication across difference. You’ll learn how to spot your own projections, respond instead of react, and build real empathy for people whose politics are different than yours (this will serve you in forming your arguments as well). This isn’t about changing your beliefs. It’s about changing how we hold them, and how we hold each other.

Our country starts healing when we heal the way we speak to each other as individuals.

You will learn to:

  • Expand and improve your communication skills in any difficult conversation
  • Become a clearer thinker
  • Build conflict resolution skills and resilience
  • Recognize cognitive distortions and logical fallacies
  • Sit with difference
  • Humanize the other

This workshop is for anyone who wants to bridge the divide and is curious about the idea of holding differing opinions, yet still respecting one another. Sign up if you identify as right-leaning, left-leaning, independent, or just a person who wants to learn to talk across differences.

Cost: $240 (You may pay in full or in installments. This will be a closed group with no drop-ins, to create container and safety together.)

*If cost is a barrier of entry, please apply anyway and we can talk about what might work for you.
